Located Downtown in The White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo opened in 1964
and has grown by leaps and bounds attaining a Million Visitors each Year. It also plays a part in Worldwide Conservation and
Research-achieving the first successful Articifial Insemination in The World of an African Elephant , for example. In addition,
it is the only Zoo in the Nation to be accredited by The American Association of Museums and The AZA(American Zoo and Aquarium
Association)as a Zoo, a Botanical Garden, and an Aquarium. The Indianapolis Zoo receives no Tax Support as a Private Non-Profit
Organization and relies entirely on Admissions, Membership Fees, Grants, and an Annual Fundraiser.
Five Biomes can be found in The Indianapolis Zoo. These Biomies are Living, Natural
Habitats that have grouped Exhibits of Animals with similar Natural Habitation. Each Biome participates actively in Breeding
and Conservation Programs. The Five Biomes are The Forests Biome, The Waters Biome, The Deserts Biome, The Plains Biomie,
and The Encounters Biome.

The Forest Biome offers Animals from Temperate and Tropical
Forests from all over the World. Featured Animals in The Forest Biome include The Amur Tiger from Siberia, The Small-clawed
Otters from Asia, and The Kodiak Bears from Alaska.

The Waters Biome includes The Dolphin Pavilion, The Waters
Building, and The Amazon Exhibit offering three types of Water: Fresh Water, Salt Water, and Sea Water. Animals available
in The Waters Biome include Fish, Amphibians, Marine Birds, Walrus, Seal Lions, Seals, Polar Bears, Penguins, and Dolphins.

The Deserts Biome is known Worldwide for its success in Breeding
and Research of Rare Desert Reptiles due to its Authentic Environment. Reptiles, Birds, and The Meerkat Exhibit can be found
in The Deserts Biome.

The Plains Biome replicates The Plains of Africa and Australia.
The Plains Biome presents Zebras, Ostriches, Giraffes, Elephants, Cranes, Lions, Baboons, Kangaroos, and more.

The Encounters Biome allows Visitors to interact with the
Animals such as Ponies, Goats and Llamas.
